3-Day Boat Trip Coron – El Nido: What to Expect
I’ll be honest – when Sabrina first suggested the 3-day boat trip between Coron and El Nido, I was sceptical. I’d never spent more than a day on a boat, let alone three days with up to 20 other people. What if the boat was cramped? What if I got seasick? What if the whole atmosphere was off?
Thankfully, Sabrina booked it anyway – and it turned out to be one of the most memorable things we’ve ever done while travelling.
If you have a few days to spare in Coron before the trip, make sure you don’t miss the wreck diving in Coron, Barracuda Lake and the Twin Lagoons – we did all three and they rank among the best things we did in Palawan.
On the boat trip itself, there’s a constant feeling of being on the move – look over the railing at any time and you’ll see hundreds of lush green islands drifting past. It’s what makes this journey so unique.
We booked our Coron to El Nido boat trip after thorough research with El Nido Paradise* – they had by far the best reviews and a very competitive price.

After completing the booking and all formalities, we met at the port in Coron at the agreed time. Passports are checked there, a fee is paid and then – finally – you board.
Once we’d met the friendly crew, the other passengers and gotten familiar with the spacious boat, it took a little while to fully switch into relaxation mode. Everything was new and exciting: chatting with fellow travellers, watching the Philippine island scenery glide by, and then – already – the first snorkelling stop of the day.
What are the days on board like?
Each day on the 3-day boat trip follows a wonderfully flexible rhythm – a personal mix of snorkelling, kayaking, beach visits, relaxing on deck and excellent food. Activities are offered almost every hour, but there’s absolutely no pressure to join any of them.
Over the course of a day you’ll stop at various snorkelling spots, deserted beaches, sandbanks and stunning islands. The best part: you’d never reach these places on a standard day tour from El Nido or Coron. These beaches and islands are only accessible on a multi-day expedition like this.
At the start of each day the crew runs through the planned stops, so you always know what’s coming. And if you’re not in the mood for snorkelling or swimming, simply stay on board and soak up the sun.
That’s exactly what I did plenty of times. While Sabrina was exploring the underwater world, I’d stay on the boat, jump off the side into the sea, or fly my drone to capture the breathtaking Philippine island landscape from above.
But honestly, beyond the incredible nature, what struck us most was the atmosphere on board. Everything was completely relaxed. The crew was warm and attentive, and it felt like spending a chilled day on a beautiful beach – except that the scenery kept changing like a giant panoramic cinema.
We genuinely couldn’t believe the landscapes we were sailing through. And then there was the food – the crew of El Nido Paradise* spoiled us for three full days.
Food on board the Coron to El Nido boat trip
Alongside the spectacular nature, the food was one of the genuine highlights of the trip. Three outstanding meals per day, served with a level of presentation you’d normally expect at a fine-dining restaurant – conjured up in a floating kitchen on a boat. We were completely blown away and looked forward to every single meal like children on Christmas morning.
Meals were served either on board or at the beach where we camped overnight. We’d sit together – all 14 of us – at one enormous table covered edge to edge with delicious dishes.
There was always a generous selection of meat dishes such as Filipino Chicken Adobo and pork, as well as freshly caught fish or squid that the crew had caught during a snorkelling stop. Add to that the famous Filipino Power (rice) and a huge fruit buffet for dessert. We finished every meal completely full – and honestly never ate as well again for the rest of our Philippines trip.
Breakfast included eggs, pancakes, coffee and more fruit than you could ever eat. Between meals there were always little snacks on deck – fried bananas, biscuits and other treats. Culinarily, this boat trip was a total highlight.

Overnight stays during the Coron to El Nido boat trip
We had some concerns beforehand about where we’d sleep – those were completely laid to rest during the trip. The overnight arrangements are genuinely wonderful. On the first night we slept in simple tents on a beautiful beach. It sounds uncomfortable, but thick mattresses and cosy pillows made it surprisingly comfortable.
The beach was positioned at a narrow strait with occasional boats passing through – and perfectly oriented to catch both a stunning sunset and a beautiful sunrise.
Our second night was on one of the Linapacan Islands, where we stayed in traditional bamboo huts right on the beach. Genuinely romantic – and comfortable too, with mattresses, pillows and a mosquito net. From our hut we had an amazing view of the beach and a sky absolutely packed with stars.
Showers and toilets on the islands
Don’t expect comfort here. The toilets are basic pit latrines, and the showers are simple enclosures with a large rain barrel and a small bucket to pour water over yourself. Not exactly luxurious – but for us, perfectly fine.
Tips for the island hopping trip between Coron and El Nido
This island hopping expedition was the absolute highlight of our entire Philippines trip. We felt completely at ease, saw breathtaking nature and had experiences we never could have imagined beforehand. Here are all the tips we wish we’d known before booking.
Which operator do we recommend for the boat trip?
We recommend El Nido Paradise – after researching many operators, they had the best combination of reviews, price and pre-trip communication. Price differences between operators can be significant, even though the offerings are often very similar.
The booking process was smooth and communication beforehand was easy and helpful. On board, the crew was outstanding – attentive, warm and genuinely invested in making our stay unforgettable. We can wholeheartedly recommend this operator. Get all the details directly from them:

What does the Coron to El Nido boat trip cost and what are the alternatives?
In 2022 we paid around €300 per person with El Nido Paradise. In 2026, comparable 3-day tours typically range from €280 to €350 depending on operator and season – some premium providers charge up to €500. If you want more time and more remote islands, the same route is also available as a 4-day tour* or 5-day tour*. Multi-day expeditions between El Nido and Coron are also bookable via GetYourGuide* – convenient if you prefer managing bookings in one place. If you just want to get between the two towns quickly, the fast ferry* takes 4–7 hours – you’ll see the island scenery, but without the expedition experiences.
What should I pack for the boat trip?
You’re fully catered for on the trip – no need to bring food or water, just a reusable water bottle. Single-use plastic bottles are banned on the islands, as is other disposable plastic.
If you have your own snorkelling gear, bring it – though there’s enough on board for everyone. We always recommend water shoes for any water activity – invaluable when you’re navigating coral and rocks. Beyond that, you genuinely don’t need anything you wouldn’t already be taking.
Hungry dogs on the islands
Something we weren’t prepared for: the many stray dogs living on the islands – some of them visibly very thin and dependent on generous tourists.
Whenever we ate on the islands, these sweet dogs would appear immediately, hoping for a share of our meal. Seeing how thin some of them were, we couldn’t say no – and ended up sharing our leftover rice (Filipino Power) that nobody was going to finish anyway.
They wolfed it down with joy – and we hope we managed to ease their hunger just a little.
Our appeal to you: if you’re spending the night on these remote islands (or travelling the Philippines more broadly), please share some of your food with the dogs where you can. They’ll be grateful for it.
How big is the boat?
Our boat was designed for up to 25 people but sailed with only 14 passengers plus crew – plenty of space for everyone. It was around 30 metres long and 6 metres wide, with a shaded lower deck for sitting and eating, a sun-sail-covered upper deck, and side walkways where you could sit or lie down. No crowding – everyone finds their own spot.
Is there mobile phone signal on the boat trip?
Yes – surprisingly, we had decent signal for most of the trip. There are noticeable differences between the two Philippine networks though: Sabrina’s Smart SIM had consistently better coverage than my Globe SIM. Good enough for photos and WhatsApp – not for Netflix or YouTube.

Is there power on the boat?
Fortunately yes – though this isn’t standard with every operator (El Nido Paradise does have it). We’d packed fully charged power banks and topped up all our batteries in advance. But especially for my drone, that would never have been enough for three days. I was very relieved to find a fully equipped charging station with multiple plug sockets and USB ports on board. Charging the drone, camera and everything else during the trip was no problem at all. Don’t forget your international travel adapter.
Can you get seasick on the boat trip?
In the dry season (November–May) it’s unlikely – the sea during our trip was extremely calm, often completely flat. If you’re very susceptible, it’s worth taking precautions. There’s a medical kit on board with the standard remedies if needed.
Is this boat trip right for me?
If you’re after a real adventure rather than just getting from A to B, a multi-day expedition like this is exactly right for you. There’s no 3-star hotel comfort – the showers and toilets take some getting used to – but the experiences along the way are truly one-of-a-kind.
If you have 3 days (or more) to spare during your Philippines trip, absolutely put this on your itinerary.

What entry requirements and environmental fees apply in 2026?
You’ll need a free eTravel Pass (etravel.gov.ph), which all international travellers must complete up to 72 hours before arriving in or departing from the Philippines. For the boat trip itself, more relevant is the Eco-Tourism Development Fee in El Nido: 400 PHP, valid for 10 days, mandatory for all tourist activities in the area.
Does the direction of the boat trip make a difference?
Not at all – the route and all the highlights are the same either way. It purely depends on your travel itinerary whether you go from Coron to El Nido or from El Nido to Coron. Check the operator’s website for available departure dates in your preferred direction before booking.
Is there a ferry between Coron and El Nido?
There is no regular public ferry between Coron and El Nido. Your realistic options are: the multi-day boat trip covered in this article, a direct flight with AirSWIFT (around 40 minutes) or a combination of ferry and van via Puerto Princesa – which takes significantly longer.
