Albo Corsica is a small village on the west coast of Cap Corse that we only planned to visit for one night in September 2026, and we ended up staying for two. The reason is easy to explain: a free campervan spot right by the sea, a very special black pebble beach and the proximity to the famous neighboring village of Nonza.

Between petting the donkey, watching sunsets on the beach and picking up fresh baguettes from the little village shop, our quick stop turned into two relaxed days. Here we show you what makes the place special, how to get there and what you should know about the campervan spot. Albo is also a great stop on our Corsica road trip by campervan.

The Free Campervan Spot in Albo

The campervan spot in Albo is the only free one we have found on all of Corsica so far, and it is beautifully located, too, with the sea just a 2-minute walk away. The site is run by the municipality, and there is a shower and a tap that work with tokens for €2, as well as a petanque court and a small playground.

A friendly donkey also wanders around the site and is regularly fed by the campers. The only downside: the ground on the pitches is very dusty and sandy.

Tip: Arrive as early as possible to still get a shady pitch under the trees.

Grocery Store in Albo

Right next to the campervan spot in the village of Albo, there is a small shop with the basics. The delicious bread, baguettes and croissants are especially worth a mention.

Albo Beach

Albo beach is about 1,250 ft (380 m) long and consists entirely of large, dark pebbles, a great contrast to the sandy beaches that are so common elsewhere in Corsica. The sea is wonderfully clear, but the water drops off very quickly, so you should only swim here when the sea is calm.

The setting on the beach is simply breathtaking: you have views of the mountains in the background, the Genoese tower next to the beach, the village of Nonza in the distance and the entire coastline of Cap Corse. Since the beach faces west, you can also watch beautiful sunsets over the sea.

There is no shade or any facilities at the beach, so be sure to bring sun protection or a parasol. The mouth of the Guadu Grande river marks the northern end of the beach. You can park on a large open area right nearby, although it is a walk of more than 330 ft (100 m) across pebbles and sand from there to the water. Also keep in mind that the beach is not supervised by lifeguards.

The Genoese Tower Tour d’Albo

At the southern end of the beach stands the Tour d’Albo, a Genoese tower about 33 ft (10 m) high on a rocky outcrop. Following its restoration in summer 2020, you can visit the tower for free from mid-July to mid-September on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The hours can change from year to year, so check with the Cap Corse tourist office if in doubt.

Coastal Walk Toward Nonza

From the Genoese tower, a coastal path continues south, in theory all the way to Nonza beach. The walk offers beautiful views of the sea and the coast the whole way, which makes Albo a perfect starting point for a walk to the famous neighboring village.

Day Trip to Nonza

Just a 10-minute drive from Albo, you will find Nonza, one of the best-known villages in Corsica, which was even voted France’s favorite village in 2016. The main attraction is the black pebble beach below the village, about 0.6 miles (1 km) long. Its dark color is said to come not from volcanic rock but from the former asbestos mine above the village, although according to current knowledge there are no longer any health concerns.

Above the village, there is also a square Paoli tower from 1760, from which you get a breathtaking view of the turquoise sea and the black beach from a height of about 525 ft (160 m).
