Saint-Florent, Corsica, lies on the south-western edge of Cap Corse, right where the peninsula merges into the Nebbio region. With its citadel towering above the bay and its large marina, it is considered one of the chicest little towns in northern Corsica. We visited this small town during our road trip around Corsica in September 2026, wandered through the old town and walked along the harbor.
Even though we did not stay long, the relaxed atmosphere of Saint-Florent won us over straight away, and here we show you what you can see and do on a stopover. To see how the town fits into a complete island route, take a look at our Corsica itinerary for 2 weeks.

Things to do in Saint-Florent: strolling through the old town
The old town of Saint-Florent sits on a small peninsula and consists of narrow, winding lanes where you come across a new, beautiful view around almost every corner. The historic center is built around Place Doria with its fountain, where cafés and small shops sit side by side.
We simply wandered and let the lanes guide us, which in our view is also the nicest way to explore the town.

Genoese citadel
The citadel of Saint-Florent towers above the town. According to Visit Corsica, it was built in 1439 and was one of the first Genoese strongholds on the island. Architecturally it is unusual, as it consists of two square towers and one round tower.
From the citadel you get a wide view over the town, the bay, the Désert des Agriates and, in good weather, all the way to Cap Corse.

Saint-Florent harbor
With room for almost 1,000 boats in high season, the marina of Saint-Florent is the second largest in Corsica after Ajaccio.
The walk along the harbor is one of our favorite things to do in Saint-Florent. With a view of the (probably very expensive) boats and the mountains behind them, you can happily while away some time, for example with a coffee in one of the cafés right on the water.

Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral
A little outside the center stands the 12th-century Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Nebbio. This small Pisan-Romanesque church of white limestone once served as the bishop’s seat of the former diocese of Nebbio.
In the old town itself it is also worth taking a look at the 17th-century Sainte-Anne church with its striking pointed tower that rises above the roofline.

Base for the Désert des Agriates
Saint-Florent is also a popular starting point for trips to the Désert des Agriates, the wild scrubland west of the town, and for boat trips to the remote beaches in the area. If you continue around Cap Corse from here, you can hike the Sentier des Douaniers in the north of the peninsula.
Beaches near Saint-Florent: Saleccia & Lotu
The best-known beaches in the area are Plage de Saleccia and Plage du Lotu in the Désert des Agriates, both with turquoise water and light-coloured sand. The easiest way to get there is by boat from the harbor of Saint-Florent: depending on your destination, the crossing takes around 20 to 30 minutes. According to the operators, a return ticket costs between 18 and 20 euros per adult. In season the boats run several times a day; the exact departure times differ by operator and month, so check their websites beforehand.
A popular combination is to take the boat to Lotu beach, walk the coastal path to Saleccia in about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours (roughly 3 miles (5 km)) and then take the boat back from Saleccia.
Tip: Plan a whole day for Saleccia and Lotu and bring sunscreen, water and food; there is hardly any shade in the Désert des Agriates and there are no shops.
